NEED FOR
TRC
Obsolete Technology needs to be
replaced with latest and right technology to have global
reach. For survival in the WTO regime with increased
international competition, updating the technology is
inevitable. But where to go for the right & authentic
information on these technology?. Ministry of Micro, Small &
Medium Enterprises has now provided the solution, government
of India through Technology Resource Centres (TRCs) set up
in MSME Development Institute all over India. TRCs are
supported by MSME Network which is linked to all the
concerned agencies in MSME Sector.
The Technology Research Centre (TRC)
has started functioning in MSME Development Institute,
Gangtok, Sikkim with effect from 1.10.2001. The functions of
TRC are categorized as follows:
1. To help Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises
which propose to upgrade or modernize their technology.
2. The TRCs will also provide information about
product
groups covering details of technology
(including state of
art technology, technology generally used
& traditional
technology), list of suppliers of
machinery and raw
materials, quality standards,
availability of consultants
etc.
3. The TRC functions in a highly computerized
environment
having facility of networking with several
organizations.
Primarily, the TRC will be in a position to
provide basic information on various technologies available
for the products viable in the Micro, Small Enterprises
sector, by way of liaison and close coordination with
national Laboratories and other technology providers.
