Keeping
in view of the rapid urbanization vis a vis
the requirement of infrastructures, the
Department had the Master Plans for Gangtok
town prepared by the M/S GILCON which has
now been updated by RITES, which envisages
perspective planning. These objectives can
be achieved through the broad strategies
being adopted by the department.
Plans
are being formulated to develop Gangtok Town
as a Model City.

1.
Development of New Township
|
|
The
Gangtok town has been already been facing
pressure from all
aspects
due to rise in population and has
little scope for availability of space for
infrastructure development. The development of
Alternate Township is essential to cope with
the future urbanization.
The
government has pleased to appoint RITES, a
Government of India enterprise as consultants.
The project has been already prepared for
development of township at Reshithang /Ranka
covering 750 hectares requiring
Rs.260crores.The project has been submitted
for consideration by the Government of India.

2.
Neighbourhood Market Development
|
|
The
capital town of Gangtok has small markets in
its neighborhood like Ranipool, Tadong and
Burtuk. At present the utilization of only one
marketing center in the capital town has been
creating congestion.
The development of these markets with
the facilities available in the capital market
will help in decongesting the capital town.

3.
Lal Bazar Development
|

Lal
Bazaar is the main marketing center for
day to day consumer items. There is no
scope for horizontal development and the
proposal is to make multistoried
marketing complex.
In the meeting with the Chief
Minister and the Union minister Shri Jagmohanji
,Rs. 9.57 crore has been approved for
the scheme and the work will be taken by
NBCC. |

4. Construction
of storm water drainage system along 31A National
highway
|
|
During
the meeting between the Minister for Urban
Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri
Jagmohan and the Chief Minister Shri Pawan
Chamling held at New Delhi on July 23, 2001,
the construction of storm water drainage
system along the National Highway 31 A in
Gangtok was approved at an estimated cost of
Rs 7.57 crores. The detail project report has
been submitted to the Ministry of Urban
Development and Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of
India for consideration.

5.
Solid
waste management
|
|
During
the meeting between the Minister for Urban
Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri
Jagmohan and the Chief Minister Shri Pawan
Chamling held at New Delhi on July 23, 2001,
the solid waste management was approved
at an estimated cost of Rs 3.93 crores. The
detail project report has been submitted to
the Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty
Alleviation, Govt. of India for consideration.

Preparation

which have no such plans

multistoried car park proposed at Duki Paan
Dokan, Kazi Road and at IOC Deorali.

cabinet has approved the proposal for

Lingding for which land has been already
acquired
