Conference of Ministers
of NE States and Sikkim |

The
conference of Ministers of Urban Development,
Local Self Government, Municipalities and
Housing of the North Eastern States and Sikkim
was held in Gangtok, Sikkim from 18th to
20th May 2001. Shri Bandaru Dattatraya, Union
Minister of State for Urban Development and
Poverty Alleviation was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The Urban Development and Housing Department,
Govt. of Sikkim organised the Conference. |

India launch of
"Good Urban Governance Campaign" |

The Urban Development and
Housing Department, Govt. of Sikkim participated
in the "Good Urban Governance
Campaign" organised by Ministry of Urban
Development and Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of
India from September 4 - 6, 2001 held at New
Delhi. Smt. Nalini G. Pradhan, Additional
Secretary and Shri Kuber Bhandari Sr. Accounts
Officer presented a Power Point Presentation on
"Case Study of Solid Waste Management in
Sikkim". A Compact Disc(CD) of the same
presentation was presented to Hon'ble Chief
Minister, Shri Pawan Chamling at New Delhi. |

Workshop on Poverty
Alleviation Programme |

District and State Level
Workshop on Poverty Alleviation Programme was
organised by UD&HD, Govt. of Sikkim on
October 16 - 17, 2001 at Gangtok. The Workshop
was sponsored by UNICEF, New Delhi. Mrs Renu
Khosla, Associate Professor and Coordinator,
NIUA, New Delhi and Mrs Raghupati, NIUA, New
Delhi were resource persons for the
workshop.
The workshop aimed at
preparation of draft action plan for Poor in
Urban Areas.

State Level Sanctioning
Committee |

A meeting of the State
Level Sanctioning Committee(SLSC) as per
guidelines of IDSMT Schemes 1995 was held in the
Conference Hall of Sikkim Housing and
Development Board, Gangtok on 11th December
2001. This meeting was chaired by the
Commissioner cum Secretary, UD & HD, Shri
L.B. Rai. The Additional Town Planner, Town and
Country Planning Organisation, represented
from the Ministry of Urban Development and
Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India. The SLSC
approved the construction of Shopping Complexes
at Singtam, Pakyong, Jorethang, Geyzing, Rongli
and Soreng. |

Shri G.K. Subba Principal Secretary cum
Development Commissioner, Smt. Nalini G.
Pradhan and Shri Kuber Bhandari Sr. A.O.
attended the N.E. states Chief Ministers
Meeting held on 9th February 2002 at Shillong.
Smt Nalini G. Pradhan and shri Kuber Bhandari
made a presentation on "Solid Waste
Management in Sikkim". The success story
of the UD&HD in banning plastic carry bags
in Sikkim was highly appreciated. The meeting
was presided by Mr. Arun Shourie, Union
Minister for Development of NE states.
