NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLGOY PROJECT ON SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF PLANT BIODIVERSITY 

 

Project:  Survey and Collection, evaluation, maintenance of Orchids and ornamental bulbous plants germplasm from North Eastern Hill Region

 

 Objectives:  

  • Survey, inventorization and collection of germplasm of orchids and ornamental flowering plants from North Eastern Hill region.

  • Maintenance, evaluation and genetic enhancement of orchids and bulbous flowering plants . 

  • Conservation and documentation.

  • Over one dozen explorations were carried out in various parts of North Eastern Hills and other parts of India.

  • Collected more than 400 accessions of Orchids, 50 species of bulbous flowering plants and more than 70 orchid hybrids.

  • Among the collections, some of them were rare and new species/ genera. 

  • Morphological characterization of orchids and other flowering plants was taken up for about 18 important floral and morphological characters.
